The Killers to receive ASCAP award
Though The Killers break continues (see post below), they are coming together to accept an award for their contribution to music.
Their latest achievement comes from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, or ASCAP. The band, whose hits include “Somebody Told Me,” “Mr. Brightside,” and “When You Were Young,” will receive ASCAP’s Vanguard Award for helping shape the future of music.
Patti Smith, who will perform at the event’s 27th annual ceremony, is also scheduled to receive the ASCAP’s Founders Award. At the ceremony, scheduled for April 27 in Hollywood, Calif., other awards will be given for songwriter of the year, song of the year and publisher of the year.
Jack Johnson, Bjork, The Beastie Boys, The Strokes, Modest Mouse, Nine Inch Nails and Beck have previously won the Vanguard Award.
